Manilal was one of nature's gentleman and his wife a gentle soul and the perfect complement for him. Worked with him when I was at Whittals and Manilal was PD on Pitaratmalie. Knew him long before that as he was a close friend of Larry's. The CTP had a great group of planters. David Schokman.

Manilal was a good friend and colleague in the 1950s. I was a few years senior to him. We had mutual respect for each other and remained good friends. A man of good spirits who followed the old Ex-Patriot planters' motto from pioneering days, 'Always Work Hard and Play hard' He was an exceptional human being a good planter and was full of fun. For him I had much respect! Bless him, may he rest in peace.

I acted for John in 1958 and, of course, knew him when he was on Tangakelle and I on Radella. In recent times - it is now 2022 - we have resumed contact via the Internet and, amongst other things, have had considerable exchanges regarding matters philosophical, anf this continues.

The managers' "bungalow" - which it wasn't because a bungalow is a single storied dwelling - was quite an anachronism. I visited once, when Ralston Tissera was there, and it certainly had character but I cannot recall obtaining any information about the suitability of the design for the climate of the area. Neither Ralston nor Wilhelm had any adverse comment to make.
