Green tea is also good for inflammatory diseases such as arthritis and gout due to THE antioxidant epigallocatechin-3-gallat (EGCG). Various stufies have shown EGCG protects joints and tissues by lowering the immune system's production of certain molecules that might lead to inflammation and joint pain. A good article on this can be found here http://beatgout.org/is-green-tea-good-for-gout/

I was interested to read the History of the Hethersett Tea Factory at Kandapola and wonder from where the author got the information – as no acknowledgement of the source is given. It seems remarkably similar to my booklet about it published by the Tea Factory Hotel in May 1996. Royston Ellis.

  • . Commented on THE END OF A CORPORATE GIANT – THE STORY OF WALKER SONS & Co. Ltd

My late husband Geoffrey Bernard Collier came to Ceylon from Britain under contract to Walkers as a director of the company. His contract ended in 1961, we moved to New Zealand. We used to joke that while he was attached to Walker's car division, my father Lt Col Gordon Austin was a director at rival Rowlands Ltd. Both companies suffered greatly when imports were stopped, Geoff was fortunate not to see this happen but felt for his colleagues still at Walkers.

When I was schooling in Kandy, in thevearly 1960s, Walkers had the premier motor repair garage in Kandy, on Dalada Veediya. ( not sure what it was called then). My uncle, Mike Fuad, with whom I boarded, took his car for repairs to Walkers. He knew a Mr. Liyanage who worked there. The multistoried Kandy City Center occupies the ptemises now. Thousands of people pass through everyday, but I wonder how many can recall Walkers.
