I acted on Forres (233 acres) in 1958, returned as PD in 1961 and, in 1965, came to Alton (780 acres) as PD and thence to Dewalakande (2000 acres) rubber from where I, sadly, left a job I loved and an excellent employer comprised of The Ceylon Tea Plantations Co. Pty,Ltd. and it's sister company The Ceylon Proprietary Tea Estates Co. Ltd., both of London. I crept on Glenlyon, Agarpatana, where Gamini Salgado was my mentor.

Thanks, Devaka, an enjoyable and memorable read bringing back memories from about 61 years ago when I, firstly, acted on Forres before it was flooded and soon thereafter, when I returned as PD. When I was first there George Hartley was SD on Rajamalai and when there the second time as PD Duncan Kreltzhiem was SD. On both occassions Jack Armitage was PD and elbow bending was a painful habit during those times.

Thank you Devaka. This brought back many fond memories as I was on Forres twice; the second time having Duncan Kreltzheim as my "neighbour" on Rajamalai and the incorigible Jack Armitage in the "big bungalow" a couple of hundred metres away - too close for comfort!!!!!

Thank you Moiya, for such a beautiful article on your childhood in Ceylon. It is nice to know that you hold the memories of your childhood close to your heart and that you would like to return back to where it all began. Yes, "Home is where the Heart is". May your dream come true. God Bless, Sincerely, Everard Hoffman

I taught at a school off Badulla in the early 1970s, and sought the help of Mike Boyd-Moss, the manager of Telbedde Estate, for the school's sports meet. He gave permission for the cross country race to be run through the estate, sent a van to follow the runners, and donated a trophy. I invited him as a chief guest at the sports meet.
