Two suspects were arrested by the Police Special Task Force while transporting 10,000kg of refuse tea from Wellambada, Gampola to Colombo.
Police Media Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said two trucks were seized in Yakkala yesterday morning with the tea and the two suspects have been handed over to the Yakkala Police for further investigations.
The DIG noted that the Police have informed the Sri Lanka Tea Board to issue a certificate in respect of the inferior quality of the tea.
The suspects will be produced before the Gampaha Magistrate’s Court and further legal action will be taken against them under the provisions of the Penal Code and the Tea Board Act, DIG Ajith Rohana added.
