Sri Lanka’s tea export revenues fell 2.3 million dollars to 115.2 million US dollars in July 2023, from 117.56 million dollars last year amid lower prices with broadly stable volumes, industry data shows.
Sri Lanka exported 22.7 million kilograms of tea in July, down marginally from 44.7 million kilograms last year.
The free on board (FOB) price of tea in July was 5.06 per kilogram down from 5.16 last July.
Up to July export revenues were 748 million up by 6.5 percent from last year’s 702 million dollars.
In the first seven months of the year Iraq was the top buyer with 18.2 million kilograms down from 27.9 million kilograms last year.
In the first seven months of the year, Turkey was the second top buyer with 16.5 million kilograms up from 8.2 million last year.
Russia had bought 14.2 million kilograms from 12.3 million kilograms, up by 1.8 million kilograms.
United Arab Emirates had bought 9.3 million kilograms in July 2023 from 12.7 million kilograms last year, down by 3.3 million kilograms.
Other CIS Countries had bought 6.8 million kilograms in July 2023 from 8.6 million kilograms last year, down by 1.8 million kilograms.
China had bought 6.6 million kilograms in July 2023 from 6.5 million kilograms last year, down by 0.1 million kilograms.
Libya had bought 4.8 million kilograms in July 2023 from 6.9 million kilograms last year, down by 2.1 million kilograms.
Saudi Arabia had bought 4.8 million kilograms in July 2023 from 6.9 million kilograms last year, down by 3.3 million kilograms.
Chile had bought 3.8 million kilograms in July 2023 from 4.4 million kilograms last year, down by 0.55 million kilograms.
