Sri Lanka’s tea export revenues fell 3.8 percent to 119.63 million US dollars in August 2023 from 124.4 million US dollars a year ago, amid lower prices, despite a slight increase in volumes, industry data showed.
The average export price was 5.13 US dollars a kilogram in August 2023, down from 5.41 US dollar last year.
In August Sri Lanka exported 23.32 million kilograms, up from 23.09 million kilograms last year.
Up to August 2023 export revenues were 868 million US dollars, down from 831 million US dollars last year, industry data published by Ceylon Tea Brokers show.
Tea production in August 2023 was 18.251 million kilograms, down from 18.276 million kilograms last year.
High grown tea production grew to 4.1 million kilograms in August 2023 from 3.39 million kilos last year, and medium grown tea production went up to 2.98 million kilos from 2.46 million kilos last year.
But low grown teas fell to 11.04 million kilos from 12.42 million last year.
