A writ petition filed by 20 major plantation companies seeking an order quashing the decision of the Wages Board to increase the daily wage of plantation workers to Rs. 1,000 was yesterday fixed for further submissions today (31) by the Court of Appeal.
The Court of Appeal bench comprised Justice Arjuna Obeysekere (President) and Justice Mayadunne Corea.
The petitioners are; Agarapatana Plantations Limited, Balangoda Plantations, Elpitiya Plantations , Horana Plantations, Hapugastenne Plantations, Kahawatte Plantations, Kegalle Plantations, Kelani Valley Plantations, Kotagala Plantations, Madulsima Plantations, Malwatte Valley Plantations, Maskeliya Plantations, Natural Plantations Limited, Namunukula Plantations, Talawakelle Tea Estates, Udapussallawa Plantations, Watawala Plantations, Hatton Plantations , Bogawantalawa Plantations and Lalan Rubbers (Pvt) Ltd.
The petitioners had named Minister of Labour Nimal Siripala de Silva, Chairman of the Wages Board for tea, rubber growing and manufacturing trade Prabath Chandrakeerthi and several others as respondents.
