Tea production continues to move along a declining trend, with the month of January recording a 16 percent dip year-on-year.
The provisional data from the Sri Lanka Tea Board showed that the tea output for January 2023 totalled 19.14 MnKgs, which is the lowest recorded for the month in the last 10 years.
The previous lowest output recorded for the month of January was in 2017, where production totalled 21.25 MnKgs. In 2022, the total output for January was 22.81 MnKgs.
Further, all elevations have shown a decrease when compared to the corresponding month of 2022.
