The best tea plucker competition among women workers was held on Saturday (25) at Somerset Estate tea field in the plantations run by Talawakelle Hayleys Plantation Company. R. Seethaiyammah from Somerset Estate, a mother of three was selected as the winner from among 44 pluckers who participated in the final competition. She won Rs. 300,000 and a gold medal for her effort. Talawakelle Plantation Company Chief Executive Officer Roshan Rajadurai said such competitions are held every year to encourage the plantation workers involved in the tea industry and make them engage in the tea industry. The event was held at the Dimbula cricket and athletics ground in Radella. She plucked 10 kg 450 grams of raw tea leaves in 20 minutes to win this prize.
