My father Lt. Col. V.C. Brind DSO, MC, was a tea planter in Ceylon from 1906 to Sep 1914 when he was given one of the two regular commissions allocated to Ceylon. He had served in the Ceylon Mounted Rifles and when commissioned the Ceylon Light Infantry. He was born at Naini Tal a hill station in the United Provinces of India on 6 Aug 1887 and died on 30 Oct 1981.
