According to Sri Lanka Tea Board (SLTB), a little over 300 million kilogrammes of tea were produced last year. Production figures are similar to the previous year’s production; in 2018, the amount of tea produced was 303 million kilogrammes.
While the December figures are yet to be received, SLTB noted that the export performance was marginally better in 2019 compared to 2018. In 2018, Sri Lanka’s tea exports were recorded at $ 117.1 million.
SLTB hopes to achieve better export figures this year, with a number of promotional campaigns scheduled to for the coming months. A tea promotional campaign for the Japanese market would be held in March and it will be followed by the promotional campaign for the Chinese market in May.
