ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s tea production had fallen 14 percent from a year ago to 22.42 million kilograms in August 2020 from 26.2 million kilograms, with production down across elevations, industry data showed.
In the eight months to August 2020 production was down 15 percent to 179 million kilograms from 211 million, industry data published by Ceylon Tea Brokers showed.
Production was down across elevations in August.
High grown production was down 4.1 million kilograms from 4.8 million, medium grown was down to 3.4 mn from 3.8mn and low growns were down to 14.8 mn from 17.1 mn.
Out of the August total of 4.1 mn, 4.0 mn was black tea. Green tea was 176,107 kilograms, down from 211,205 a year earlier. (Colombo/Sept25/2020)
