July 25, Colombo: A discussion was held at the Ministry of Plantation Industries today under the patronage of Minister of Plantation Industries Navin Dissanayake on starting the process of exporting tea to Iran, which was constrained by US sanctions on Iran.
Secretary to the Ministry of Highways and Petroleum Resources, Secretary to the Ministry of Plantation Industries, Tea Exporters and officials of the Sri Lanka Tea Board participated in the discussion.
During the discussion, all parties agreed to settle the payments owed to Iran for the fuel through tea exports.
Under the new system, Sri Lanka will be able to begin exporting Ceylon Tea to Iran before the end of August, the Minister said.
