ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka has given the go-ahead for tea, coconut, rubber, pepper, Cinnamon and other crop producers to resume harvesting and processing for export adhering to health regulations, a task force overseeing food production has said.
This was decided at a presidential task force meeting for essential services held at President house.
Ministry of Plantation Industries and Export Agriculture said that all the activities from planting, plucking, storing, transporting and exporting will be given the permission to start under the supervision of the health authorities to prevent the spreading of the COVID-19 virus.
Tea, coconut, rubber, cashew nut, sugar cane as well export products such as cinnamon, pepper, coffee, vanilla, turmeric, ginger, beetle, nutmeg, clove, cardamom, areca catechu (beetle nut) production has given the permission to start during the curfew period.
