A special programme was held at the Gangabada Estate in Baddegama, Galle, under the patronage of Plantations and Export Agriculture Minister Dr. Ramesh Pathirana on Sunday to mark International Tea Day.
International Tea Day is observed annually on December 15. It has been celebrated since 2005 in tea-producing countries such as India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Vietnam, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Kenya, Malawi, Malaysia, Uganda and Tanzania.
To mark the occasion, the Minister planted a tea plant at the estate premises.
Fisheries and Aquatic Resources State Minister Kanchana Wijesekara and Ministry Secretary Ravindra Hewawitharana were also present.
