COLOMBO (News1st): Estate workers say that state-run plantations have failed to offer the 1000-rupee daily wage although the government had issued a directive to this effect recently.
Workers employed in 22 privately-owned estates had not received the 1000 rupee daily wage this month. In addition, workers attached to 38 state-run plantations had not received the wage as well.
Plantations Minister Ramesh Pathirana told News 1st that the proposal to meet the increased wage had not been implemented completely as it was based on a sudden decision.
He said that steps would be taken to settle the balance payments during the weekend.
